Our
engineers perform the following tasks for DHS:
Explosive Detection Technology
- Develop Test Protocols for Passenger Screening
Devices, Bottle Screening Devices, and X-Ray
based explosive detection systems
- Develop various tools to improve effectiveness
and efficiency of the testing process, customized
bar code reader programs, and automated data
reduction and analysis software
- Perform numerous analyses of objects and
materials of interest using x-ray imaging, automated
explosives detection, dielectric analyses and
metal detection in order to evaluate various
possible threat scenarios proposed by the TSA
- Develop and manufacture kits using simulated
explosives and mock weapons for testing of security
systems and training of operators
- Evaluate various new explosive detection
technologies being researched by academia such
as Portable Acoustic Wave System (PAWS), Georgia
Tech and Amplified Fluoride Polymers (AFT),
MIT Develop significant technological improvements
in QC articles and in preparation of test articles
Security Needs Analysis
- Perform requirement analysis including the
modeling and simulations to assess the operational
impact and cost impact to the domestic air transportation
system
- Develop and review project plans, threat
and vulnerability analysis, risk assessment,
threat and countermeasure determination
- Performed an in-depth analysis and developed
a conceptual design for demonstrating Positive
Passenger-Bag Matching (PPBM) for implementation
at commercial airports
- Conducted airport testing to analyze security
equipment and procedures in live airport settings
- Identified and coordinated site specific
problems on Security Equipment Integration and
evaluated site preparation plans
- Monitored and coordinated security equipment
delivery scheduling and equipment staging and
installation planning
Human Factors
- Supported the definition and preparation
of overall plans by which existing or new aviation
security concepts may be evaluated in the laboratory
or in the field
- Performed vulnerability assessment and risk
analysis
- Performed man-machine interface studies of
explosive/weapon detection systems
- Developed end-user and customer questionnaires,
conducted surveys, and transposed data collected
into databases
